Hello readers and welcome to the new year!
What better way to ring in this quarter than to update yourself on the trends you’ll see walking past you on the way to your 10:30? And who better to inform us than the fashionable members of FashionX Core?
Introducing a new FXBlog quarterly issue: Fashion Forecast. Before each quarter, I poll the lovely participants of the FashionX Core group chat on their opinions of trends, styles, and pieces they hope to see (or not see) on Stanford campus this quarter.
Let’s get into it. My participants had lots to say about shoes of different varieties, especially those that fall into the boot category. We want to see tall boots, fun boots, boots paired with lace, boots with big sweaters. Think Ariana Grande circa 2017 (or don’t). Personally, I will be dusting off my cowboy boots for a casual day of classes, as I’m sure many of you will join me in doing. And what better way to wear cowboy boots than as an essential accessory of a boho chic outfit? Rumor has it that boho chic is coming back to the fold.
On the topic of boho chic, one participant describes what he wants to see on campus this quarter: “Think Coachella 2016. Color palette is reds and oranges and pinks and greens and purples. Paisley, Moroccan rugs, intricate patterns and silk scarves.” Take that as an invitation (or an obligation). You heard it here first.
Another pattern of responses that I noticed within my sample group: keeping things CASUAL! We at FashionX hope to see that long dresses, work wear, ballet flats, and many more pieces are made casual again. If you see your friend step out of their dorm in slacks and a patterned button-up, thank them for bringing business casual BACK to this campus.
Let’s move on to a segment that might ruffle some feathers, but it needs to be said: what these FashionXers do NOT want to see on a stroll through Stanford campus, ordered on a scale of how much I agree with the sentiment. First up is what my participant called “that ugly motherf*cking blue Goyard tote.” While I wouldn’t use such strong language to speak about this accessory, I’m glad someone else agrees with my way of thinking about this particular bag. Another favorite response of mine was “anything boring.” Let’s see some fashion complexity, people! Surprise us. Some other responses included bows, tacky animal print, bows, and sweatpants. In my opinion, however, sweatpants are permissible with the right accessories. Please do with that information what you will.
So so much more is coming for you all. Talk soon xx.
Fashionably,
Ella
